Version 3.1
From HeroRPG Manual
Version 3.1 will feature a revamp of the existing item system. In addition to internal changes which will make the item system more efficient, there will be more ways for players to interact with and customize their items.

[edit] Item Customization
[edit] Alchemy
The existing Alchemy system will remain in place with few, if any, changes.
[edit] Compounding
Compounding is the process by which players can create usable items through the combination of materials. There is no limit to which items can be created; the resulting items are dependent upon the ingredients with which they are created.
Compounding is done in the workshop. There are 4 slots in which items may be placed for combination. Each of the ingredients may have one or more properties that may or may not be applied to the resulting item. In addition, each item also has an energy requirement. The sum of these energy requirements will be the total amount of energy required in order to consume the resulting item. In addition, the ingredients themselves may be consumed.
[edit] Example
For this example we will be using two ingredients:
Foul Mushroom
+10 HP
5 Energy Cost
Ginger Spices
+5 Str (10 Minutes)
7 Energy Cost
Combining these two items could produce either a potion that heals 10 HP and gives you a strength bonus of 5 for 10 minutes (and costs 12 Energy), a potion that heals 10 HP (and costs 5 Energy), or a potion that just gives a strength bonus (and costs 7 Energy). The chance of each ingredient successfully contributing to the potion is based on your Compounding skill level.
[edit] Tempering
Similar to the Augmentation system found in Legend of Arcadia, the Tempering system will allow players to enhance items that have not already been enhanced via Alchemy. Likewise, items that have been Tempered may not be Transmuted.
Each item capable of being tempered will have a set of Materials (the same set which is used in Alchemy). These materials depict which type of items can be tempered onto the base item. Unlike Alchemy, Tempering bestows the full effect of the item upon the base item. However, the percentage of that item type which composes the base item depicts the chance that it will succeed. The chance of each material successfully contributing to the resulting item can be increased by raising your Tempering skill level.
[edit] Example
For example, we have a base item:
Small Shortsword
Str: 10
Agi: 5
20% Wood, 80% Iron
We are going to temper the following item onto it:
Flimsy Metal Scrap
Str: 5
100% Iron
There is an 80% chance that 5 strength will be applied to the item, and a 20% chance that you will fail and lose the materials. The base item will remain intact in the event of a failed tempering.
[edit] Disassembly
Disassembly is the opposite of Tempering. When disassembling an item, there is a chance that you will receive materials from the item (based on the base item's composition). The chance that you will receive a material of each type is dependent on each item's percentage of the total composition.
[edit] Example
Small Shortsword
Str: 10
Agi: 5
20% Wood, 80% Iron
If we disassemble this item, there is a 20% chance that you will receive a Wood material and an 80% chance that you will receive an Iron material. The materials you receive are random materials of the corresponding type. Each chance is independent of one another; it is possible to receive both the Wood and Metal, just as it is possible to receive nothing.
[edit] Faction System
The faction system is a way of earning reputation with certain groups of NPCs. The higher your reputation with a group, the better the rewards. Faction rewards can include items, new quests, Eidolons, or entirely new areas to explore.
[edit] Faction Points
You earn faction points (reputation) with a faction by slaying monsters and performing tasks on its behalf. Simply killing monsters in a region won't give you faction points. You have to undertake quests from faction members, or perform tasks listed on the Billboard.
In addition, killing certain types of monsters may net you faction points, such as killing Orcs in the first chapter. Killing bosses will also give you faction points, regardless of whether they are the objective of a quest or not.
[edit] Faction Rewards
Each town has an Outfitter where you can buy items that are only offered by that town's faction. The more faction points you have with that faction, the better the items you are able to purchase. The items available for purchase can be purchased with gold.
The Billboard may also give you better quests as you gain faction points.
