[edit] Introduction

Alchemy is the process through which matter is altered in composition. Alchemy, in HeroRPG, not only involves chemistry, but also all other matter which composes objects in the world. It is thus far the only way to alter existing items in order to make them more powerful.

[edit] Requirements

In order to perform alchemy, your character must complete a quest which can be started at any time past level 30. Once this quest is complete, you will have access to the Alchemy link on the game's navigation.

In addition, you must have three ingredients in order to perform a successful transmutation (alchemical reaction): A base item (for example, a sword), at least one material (e.g. Plate Metal), and a power source (catalyst) that supplies the required amount of power for the reaction. Read the section on catalysts below to learn more about them.

[edit] Base Items

The base item is the item that will be altered in the transmutation. Generally, base items are either armor pieces or weapons, though there may be some exceptions. This item must be placed in the center slot of the transmutation diagram. Note the item's components, which can be located on the "Misc" tab on the item's information pop-up. Items can have up to 5 components with varying percentages. The percentages next to the components describe how much of the item is comprised of that component. In turn, this will affect how much of the bonus from materials matching that component will be applied to the item. For example, a steel material that provides 100 bonus damage that is transmuted with an item that is 80% steel will only apply 80 damage to the item. However, if it were applied to a 100% steel item, the entire 100 damage bonus would be applied.

[edit] Materials

The second component of a transmutation is materials. At least one material is required (along with the base item) in order to perform a transmutation. Materials have only one component, which can be viewed by clicking on the "Misc" tab of the item's information pop-up. This component must match one of the base item's component's, or the transmutation will fail. The materials must be placed in either the left, right, or bottom slots of the diagram.

[edit] Catalysts

Catalysts are power sources found throughout the game that are needed for transmutations. They can be found on many creatures and through other methods such as quests and defeating bosses. There are many different types of catalysts, each of which provide a different amount of energy.

In addition, the materials used in the reaction, as well as the base item, will contribute to the energy cost required. More powerful materials and base items will require more energy.

In order to tell how much energy is required for a transmutation, you must place all of the items in the transmutation diagram (with or without the catalyst itself) and click the "Calculate Required Energy" button. You must then place a catalyst in the diagram which provides energy greater than or equal to the amount displayed for Required Energy.

The catalyst must be placed in the top slot of the diagram.

For an example of this and the entire process, refer to the end of this guide.

[edit] Predefined Transmutations

Some combinations of items produce a predefined result. These are known as "Predefined Transmutations." These combinations produce rare items such as Relics and Trinkets. Often, such transmutations require high amounts of energy in combination with very rare or valuable items.

[edit] Example

Item: Steel Sword
Damage: 50
Quality: 50
Components: Steel (80%), Oak (20%)

Material: Steel Spikes
Bonus: 10 Damage
Quality: 10
Components: Steel

Catalyst: Meager Energy Stone
Power: 65

The total quality of Steel Sword and Steel Spikes is 60, thus you will need a Catalyst with at least 60 Power. The Meager Energy Stone provides 65 power, so the transmutation should succeed. Combining these three items in the transmutation diagram would produce the following item:

Custom Steel Sword
Damage: 58
Quality: 58

The stats of the Steel Spikes were added to the Steel Sword. However, since the Steel Sword was only 80% steel, only 80% of the Steel Spikes' stats were added to the resulting item. This results in an item with a quality rating of 58 - the original 50 of the Steel Sword, and the 8 (80% of 10) from the Steel Spikes.
